Christmas Traditions

Thanksgiving signals the beginning of the Christmas Holiday. Usually on that evening there are two movies that I have to watch... One is the
Velveteen Rabbit
and the other is
How the Grinch Stole Christmas.
(Please click on the titles to read the stories of these wonderful fun books)

This year has been very different for me.. I haven't watched any of my Christmas Movies or even put up a Christmas tree. For some reason.. I am just not into the season. I wonder if that is because I live alone? I have had a trying year this year and maybe just maybe I am just tired.
Now don't get me wrong... I am excited for the New Year to begin.. that means a whole new beginning and new promises made to yourself to do better in the up coming year.

Speaking of Holiday Traditions.. I just love this story!!! I have the movie Prancer with Sam Elliott and he plays the grumpy ole father in this movie. Mainly the story is about his little girl and this poem was quoted in the movie.. it is so very true to keep the Holiday Spirit in our lives year round........ Even though it doesn't feel like Christmas to me this year.. I still believe you should always keep kindness in your heart..

Is There a Santa Claus?

From the Editorial Page of The New York Sun,
written by Francis P. Church, September 21, 1897

We take pleasure in answering thus prominently the communication below, expressing at the same time our great gratification that its faithful author is numbered among the friends of The Sun:

"Dear Editor--I am eight years old.
"Some of my little friends say there is no Santa Claus.
"Papa says, 'If you see it in The Sun, it's so.'
"Please tell me the truth, is there a Santa Claus?

Virginia, your little friends are wrong. They have been affected by the scepticism of a sceptical age. They do not believe except they see. They think that nothing can be which is not comprehensible by their little minds. All minds, Virginia, whether they be men's or children's are little. In this great universe of ours man is a mere insect, an ant, in his intellect, as compared with the boundless world about him, as measured by the intelligence capable of grasping the whole of truth and knowledge.

Yes, Virginia, there is a Santa Claus. He exists as certainly as love and generosity and devotion exist, and you know that they abound and give to your life its highest beauty and joy. Alas! how dreary would be the world if there were no Santa Claus! It would be as dreary as if there were no Virginias. There would be no child-like faith then, no poetry, no romance to make tolerable this existence. We should have no enjoyment, except in sense and sight. The eternal light with which childhood fills the world would be extinguished.

Not believe in Santa Claus! You might as well not believe in fairies! You might get your papa to hire men to watch in all the chimneys on Christmas eve to catch Santa Claus, but even if you did not see Santa Claus coming down, what would that prove? Nobody sees Santa Claus, but that is no sign that there is no Santa Claus. The most real things in the world are those that neither children nor men can see. Did you ever see fairies dancing on the lawn? Of course not, but that's no proof that they are not there. Nobody can conceive or imagine all the wonders there are unseen and unseeable in the world.

You tear apart the baby's rattle and see what makes the noise inside, but there is a veil covering the unseen world which not the strongest man, nor even the united strength of all the strongest men that ever lived, could tear apart. Only faith, fancy, poetry, love, romance, can push aside that curtain and view and picture the supernal beauty and glory beyond. Is it all real? Ah, Virginia, in all this world there is nothing else real and abiding.

No Santa Claus! Thank God! he lives, and he lives forever. A thousand years from now, Virginia, nay, ten times ten thousand years from now, he will continue to make glad the heart of childhood.

I want to Wish Each and Everyone of you a

Joyous and Happy Christmas Holiday!

Aunt Pitty Pat and The Pitty

Ok I think I have given the wrong impression.. I am not sad because it doesn't feel like Christmas... maybe if it was to come a month or two down the road... Just because it doesn't feel like Christmas to me.. that's not a bad thing.. Heck I am sure I am not the only Grinch this year... I'm happy really!!! No worries my sweet friends!!!

Thank you everyone for your sweet words... they were very dear and full of concern...

and I thank you for them!!!

Let me wish you a merry little Christmas and try to find joy in the little things - that are actually often the very big things!

I live alone and will be having Christmas by myself with my boy! But, I will call my family in Germany, my daughter and a couple friends in California and maybe make myself something special to eat and share with Gizzy and the stray cats (baked chicken?) I'm hoping for a crisp, cold day so that Gizzy and I can have a refreshign walk by the lake to with the ducks and the goose a Merry Christmas too by giving them some treats as well.

All the best to you and little Miss Pitty Pat, good health and a very happy New Year!

Yours truly,
Doris and Gizzy :-)

Dear, dear AAP,
Please remember that you have friends and family who love you, and many online friends who wish you the best. A tough year makes it hard to enjoy the season at times. But, you are good to focus on the new year. Take to heart the warmth of those you love and screw anyone else [oh-did I really say that?:)]

xxooxx, San-Dee
