Because inquiring minds want to know...I had my husband try this. He had a $2 battery from the Dollar General Store. He cut it open and that one did NOT contain AA batteries. It had 4 long ones the diameter of a "D" cell battery. Drats, drats, and double drats!! I was disappointed!!! So he taped it back up with black tape and put it back into the lantern...no waste, and it still works. We didn't look inside the more expensive batteries. But for the $2 model...sorry, false information folks!
