If you enjoy this wonderful cupcake recipe then run over to Sugar Cooking and check out some of her other awesome recipes ;) Just click on the photo to go to her web site ;)
Don't these look yummy???

  • 16 TBSP unsalted butter, cut into 4 pieces
  • 4 oz bittersweet chocolate, chopped
  • 1 cup dutch process cocoa
  • 1 1/2 cups unbleached all purpose flour
  • 2/3 cup of malted milk powder
  • 1 tsp baking soda
  • 1 1/2 tsp baking powder
  • 4 large eggs (room temp)
  • 1 1/2 cup sugar
  • 2 tsp vanilla extract
  • 1 tsp table salt
  • 1 cup sour cream
  • 1/3 cup milk

Directions:

  1. Adjust oven to lower-middle position; heat oven to 350 degrees. Line standard size muffin pan (cups have 1/2 cup capacity) with baking-cup liners.
  2. Combine butter, chocolate, and cocoa in a medium heatproof bowl. Set bowl over saucepan containing barely simmering water; heat mixture until butter and chocolate are melted and whisk until smooth and fully combined. Set aside to cool until just warm to touch.
  3. Whisk flour, malt powder, baking soda, and baking powder in small bowl to combine.
  4. Whisk eggs in second medium bowl to combine; add sugar, vanilla, and salt and whisk until fully incorporated. Add cooled chocolate mixture and whisk until combined. Sift about one-third of the flour mixture over chocolate mixture and whisk until combined; whisk in sour cream until combined, then sift remaining flour mixture over and whisk until batter is homogeneous and thick.
  5. Divide batter evenly among muffin pan cups. Bake until skewer inserted into center of cupcakes comes out clean, 18 to 20 minutes. (12 minutes for minis)
  6. Cool cupcakes in muffin pan on wire rack until cool enough to handle, about 15 minutes. Carefully lift each cupcake from muffin pan and set on wire rack. Cool to room temperature before icing, about 30 minutes.

Yes I did it!!

I had a wonderful day at work yesterday... I did something that I very rarely get to do! That is to make someones day so special that they will never forget!!
I had a young man come into my patrol station and ask me if I could help him find someone. He had came here all the way from IL looking for his grandmother, that he had not seen since he was six. This young man appeared to be about 23 yrs old. He said he had call directory assistance they had no phone listings. Then he said he went to every place he could remember as a child and still no luck in finding her. He looked so lost and discouraged. Like it was a hopeless situation. He said to me.... your my only hope in finding her .. it might be possible you might have her somewhere in your system. I asked his name and what the persons name was he was looking for. I just happened to find a name in my computer matching that name. I told the boy I was leaving the front counter and was going to make a phone call. Well this call could have turned out two ways.
#1 The lady if she answered would not know the boy.
#2 She would know the boy and may or may not have wanted to see him.
So I placed the call... I stated my name and business and asked her if she knew such and so .. her answer was no. Then I told her thank you and started to hang up and she screamed!! She screamed right in my ear!!! I was taken a back.. I kept saying are you ok are you ok??? She came on the line and said is that person from IL???? I stated yes.. she screamed again and started hollering for another person in the house... such and so they have found him they have found him our grandson is looking for us.... At that moment I knew a good thing had happened... As she calmed down to talk to me I asked her is it ok if I give him your phone number to call you... Yes Yes Yes!!! She asked where the boy was... I told her with me at the Police station... she then asked if it was here in Kansas.. and I told her yes here in the city... she started crying again... and I told her I was going to hang up now and to expect a call very soon from her grandson.... I got a huge sobby Thank you. I went back out to my desk and I asked the young man to come to the counter.. I told him it was his lucky day as I was able to contact his grandmother and she was over joyed that he had found her. I thought the young man was going to pass out.. he started crying and all he could say was thank you thank you!!! I handed him the number that I had called. I told him were the nearest payphone was.. but he said no worries he had a cell phone... he was crying and dialing as he walked out of my patrol.....
I was very happy to help this young man in his quest to find his grandmother and I was very thrilled to have went the extra steps for him... This is one of the things in life that makes my job worth while ;) I hope you enjoyed this story of love ;)

There is so much to blog about :)

As all of you know I was busy getting my Halloween aprons finished up for the Spooks, Rattles, Pots, and Pans swap ;) I got them completed and they are now at the new owners homes.. so without further a do here they are ;)

I really like how fast and easy this full apron pattern goes together. It is fully lined and looks so classy when its completed :)

LOL I had to show all three matching aprons that I made.. I know this isn't a very good photo. But I don't own a clothes line to hang them on ......so I did the best I could at taking all three together :) If you look really hard you can see three orange buttons. Each button is attached to one pocket on each apron.

Here is one potholder made from the scraps ;)

Here is another potholder made from scraps. Now let me tell you these were a tad difficult for me. The instructions called for two layers of that heat resistant stuff and one layer of batting. It made the layers so d a r n (LOL not spaced it looked like a curse word) thick the walking foot didn't even want to walk around it. So they are not my best item I have every made.. but from now on I am going to use two layers of the heat stuff and no layers of batting. ;)
There is other fun stuff to blog about... but I'll wait until tomorrow.

We Won ... We Won!!!

OH my goodness.. I can't believe it the Pitty won 2nd place in the Halloween Costume contest. I just wanted to thank everyone that went by and voted for their favorite Pet :) Yeah!!! being a 2nd place winner we were able to pick something out of Honey Bee Crochet on Etsy. So the Pitty told me its getting to be cold and its near the Holiday season. Being the nice sweet little girl that she is she has asked to have one of the wonderful handcrafted Caps donated in Honey Bee's local area for the Homeless or the less fortunate. Pitty is always doing nice sweet things for others during the Holiday season. Last year we loaded up the Truck and took a bed full of food to the food bank. She of course had to drive us there ;) Then she made sure we run by her favorite place and leave food and drinks...... the Er Vet Clinic. Pitty is always trying to go by and see her friends down there. So you see its never too early for us to think about ways to help others during the Holiday Season.. I know Pitty and I feel so much better when we help others.

Sorry!!!

Hello all my little swappers.. I am so sorry I am running behind on the blog stuff.. I will draw names tomorrow for my swap give away. I am so sorry I am late. But I have a great excuse. I just finished up my third Halloween apron tonite. I had two wonderful partners in my Rattles Pots and Pans apron swap. LOL..... I decided to make all three of us matching aprons. We have all agreed to wear them Saturday night... I am shipping them out tomorrow priority mail. So they will get there by Freaky Friday :) When I know they have received their aprons I will post photos ;)
So please hang in there one more day :)

Lightning flashing... A Halloween Story

They were together in the House.
Just the two of them.

It was a cold, dark, stormy night. The storm had come quickly
and each time the thunder boomed he watched her jump.
She looked across the room and admired his strong appearance... and wished that he would take her in his arms, comfort her and protect her from the storm.

Suddenly, with a pop, the power went out... she screamed... He raced to the sofa where she was cowering... He didn't hesitate to pull her into his arms.
He knew this was a forbidden union and he expected her to pull back.
He was surprised when she didn't resist but instead clung to him.

The storm raged on....
They knew it was wrong....
Their families would never understand... So consumed were they in their fear that they heard no opening of the doors.... just the faint click of a camera.......

This cracked me up.. I received it as an email :)
I hope you get a kick out of it too :)

So true so true!!!

Click photo to enlarge ;)
Ok I have to say it!!! I am a carding carry-ing... gun toting redneck gal... when I received this photo as an email I just had to share it with all of you. I got a great laugh from it.. but dang its true!! I could just see me doing that to one of those liberal sort of people :)
Makes me proud to be an American, where you can voice your opinions!
Now don't get me wrong some of my best friend's and family are very liberal.
But when is it time for us Americans to say when????

Catch of the Day :)

CLiCk PHoto FoR LiNk :)

Pitty has been entered into an on line Halloween Costume Contest :) Hopefully tomorrow the pole will be up so you can vote.. Run over look at all the beautiful fur babies and their wonderful costumes ;)

And finally .. .would this be considered
DUCK SOUP???

Heart pumping, voice screaming and eyes bugging!!

I went skipping out to the mail box yesterday. Hopped down the east set of steps, and returned to the front door via main steps. I was walking along looking at the mail when all of a sudden what did my eyes spy. Yes my eyes popped out of my head and I let out a screech!!! Here is what I almost ran into or I should say Pitty came to face to face with:

This baby was huge.. I have seen this type of spider hanging around the porch before. I think they are about a good three inches in size. These spiders are rather pretty if they don't scare the wits out of you!! I don't have a clue as to what type he/she is .. but I do like spiders they eat all the nasty little bugs I don't want hanging around the Ranch :) After finding this huge spider... Pitty and I loaded up in the truck to ship off our Halloween Annie... Ua Hum as you noticed.. I said I shipped off my Annie who is due on the 24th. Just a small hint ladies as I was on vac and I still managed to get her out on time :) So if you haven't gotten your swaps done they are late as of Sat. (Ps Sorry ladies but your Apron swaps are now late) My aprons have had prior arrangements made before my vacation. They knew they would be late. But I have both of them cut and ready to sew. I hope to get them completed before the weeks out. Ok back to the story!! I was driving along and all of a sudden the Pitty stopped dead in her tracks. I looked down to the consolee where she was looking and Oh mY LorD JeSuS there was the biggest Black Hairy almost 2 inch spider you ever saw in your life. In my mind this spider was bigger and hairier than the werewolf of London... And his toofies/ fangies were as long and pointy as the Seattle Space Needle... He was huge!! I went left to center and slammed on the breaks as it was headed toward my leg. Thank goodness there was a magazine on the seat. Let me tell you I almost wet myself on that spider!! I am not a sissy girl by any means of the word. I am fearless but that dang thing scared the Ba Jeebazes out of me. It was a good thing that there was no on coming traffic.. I would have been in a wreck for sure!!! Anything that happened after that was uneventful...

Oh I should not forget here is a photo of my finished siggy blocks ;}

The swap requirements were 70 finished blocks that were 3 1/2 inches using civil war prints. They are due Nov 1st. I started them this weekend and got them completed in time to mail out for the due date ;) Yeah I am so happy about that!!! I really didn't think I would make that date.. for shipment. I tried to drop out..but the hostess said no worries if I was very close to due date. I purchased my fabric when I was in Ca.. so that made them all the more special to me when I made them :) Mother and I went to Mt Diablo to this very quaint quilting shop. It wasn't a very big shop but it had a ton of activity. They were holding a class and there were fabrics and finished quilts everywhere. They had rows and rows of civil war prints. I bet there was over 500 prints to choose from. It was hard making a choice so that is why I picked out two prints to use :) Its hard to tell from this photo but the print I used is little hearts. I am very excited to see the blocks that I will get in return. After seeing all those prints.. it will be fun to see what ones were used.

Sunday Evening and all is well ;)

I thought I would show a photo of me :).. Ok it's really me.. just the back side of me ;) LOL
Sorry....I don't like my photo posted out on the net...
Wow I had a good day .. I got a lot done. I finished up on my Spookable Annie, even took photos of her. Then I started on my 70 blocks that I need for my Siggy block swap. I have all the pieces cut out and about half of them stitched up all ready. Tomorrow should be a breeze getting them done. Then I have to sew two aprons... if I keep at it I just might get all of my swaps done and out by next weekend :) Yeah at least the Annie will be out on time :) So will the siggy blocks. Once all of these projects are done .. I am going to get the 8 Annie's for the family done before I start on my Christmas Quilt blocks.. Finishing up the Annie's should not take to long ... all of the bodies are done and sewn together. I only have to sew the clothing that I already have cut out. Almost all of them have their faces on too. Over half have hair... so see it should not take long to finish those up either ;) I got a post today from my sister....... she has indicated she has the baby quilt done that we were working on when I was out in Ca. She is going to try and take photos of it soon. When I get them I will show all of you the finished product. For those of you that follow my blog.. Grandma Peachy is out of the hospital and back at the care facility and doing better each day. Mom still has not hear about her tests.. but I will keep you all up to date when I hear something :) It's getting late so I better run ...have a great tomorrow :)

Good Sunday Morning ;)

Hello Ladies I hope your having a fantastic weekend and have been able to sew and have some fun today :)
I just wanted to remind all of my apron swappers that their aprons are due now.. lets please get them into the mail :) No one likes to have an after Halloween gift. It would be so much fun to use them during the seasons parties and fun :)
Also don't forget your Annie's are due on Oct 24th at the Receivers home not sent!!

If you haven't noticed Craft hope has Project 5 started. It looks like its very easy and I just love the pattern. Also don't forget that Toy Society will start their Christmas toy drive soon too :)

Ok enough of Public Service Announcements :O)

Shopping instead of sewing

Aggghhhh I am having such a hard time getting my self motivated to sew since my return home from Ca. I think its the temp change and its been rainy and cloudy. I think I have that seasonal thing .. I need sunshine ... I crave sun shine!!! Not to mention.. I was just wore out after my first week back to work!!
I went shopping yesterday and found that Hancock's fabric store had Coats and Clarks thread 50% off guess who purchased a box full??? NO it wasn't the neighbor lady, No it wasn't the bag lady... Yes it was Me!! I was almost out of every color. So I stocked up again for the up coming years projects. I purchased thread for Christmas Projects, Halloween projects, V-day projects and so on. I even purchased thread for those I haven't created in my mind yet projects. Oh my goodness I just created a new obsession.. a thread stash.
The sale was yesterday 10/12.. but I think it might have been a Columbus Day sale for 3 days only. But worth the check out to see if they are still having sale on thread.
I also found my next favorite fabric shop. The little town north of me has an awesome quilting store. You can just about find any type of fabric that you want there. She has now opened a discount shop. If fabrics don't sell in her main shop in a reasonable amount of time, she puts them in the discount store. She also puts new fabrics in it if she can get a great deal on bolts. I purchased some lovely Moda fabrics for almost half off its original price. The fabrics were an awesome dusty rose pink with dots. I think they will make a lovely backing for a shabby chic quilt :)

This was a post that I posted on my blog on a wonderful new forum that I joined. I joined in a group that is called Pins and Needles. It is a sewing and crafting group. It was started by Brenda G. Our Annie pattern benefactor. I have a button link here on my blog to the site. LOL I don't know if it is an invitation only group.. but if you need one. I will be more than happy to send you and invite. If you are interested in joining please send me a post and I will invite you :)

More Items made for the Family :)

I have posted several blog entries today please scroll down to see all of them :)

Gifts all wrapped up waiting on the new owners. :)

This is a little pouch that I made my mom for her crochet hooks. :) it has a matching knitting needle roll :) The color of these two items are in between of both of the photos. I took the photos out on the glass veranda but they didn't turn out so hot.. It must have been the person taking the photos... >>> points finger at self :)

This is the apron that my mother chose. I let her pick out the one she liked the best out of the three aprons that I made. In an earlier Post below .. there are photos of the other two aprons ;)

This is an arm chair caddy that I made my Auntie ;) She used it right away.. she had her book and remote in it faster than you could blink and eye. She said she loved the color of it ;)

This is the arm chair caddy that I made my uncle. . he said it would come in handy and was happy to receive it. Like the goof that I am I didn't get a photo of Grandma Peachy's caddy or Pillow cases...sorry.

Each one of the girls received a drink wallet (it was filled with drinks too) with
matching zipper pouch to use in their purses.

I made the guys 5 different colored neck coolers.. the brother in law immediately wrapped one around his head for a sweat scarf. He said he loved these they would be awesome to use when they were out doing the paint ball (gun) thing. He said he was hoping I would make some more for him soon as the others got wore out and he really missed them. Yeah it was a great gift. In fact the little niece had one as a ponytail holder too... how funny ;)
You saw the other gifts that I gave .. the art bag and the back pack :)
I didn't get a photo of the back pack that I made Nadine.... Maybe she will post a photo to me of it so I can share it with you too :)

Dolls

If your a follower of my blog you have heard me talk about my Grandma Peachy and her sewing. Here are two dolls that she dressed after she turned the tender young age of 94 yrs old. These dresses were made without a pattern. I have always been amazed to see the dresses and blouses that my grandmother made without patterns or books.. the items are from scratch out of her head .. makes one ponder how does she do that??? Didn't these turn out awesome. Due to her current health conditions she is no longer able to dress her dolls. I was told during this trip Grandma Peachy was able to make each child in the family a doll dressed by her. I am very lucky to be a proud owner of one of her amazing dolls. It is tucked away so that it doesn't get damaged or spoiled. These two dolls that you are looking at are in a very nice vintage glass case. Because of the glass there is a bit of glare on the photos sorry. I didn't want to remove them and take a chance of getting them damaged.

What a pretty Bride :)

If I re-call right this was one of the dolls my Grandmother had as a child. She re-dressed her, because the original clothing the doll had on was in pretty bad shape.

A photo of both dolls and if you look really close you will see a couple of kupie dolls ;)

Gifts for the Great Niece :)

I purchased this pattern off of Ebay a year or so ago. It came in a pattern lot of children's clothing patterns. I had tucked it away knowing I would make the Great Niece a dog from the pattern. I had a fun time making this little dog, I did my own modifications of it as usually. Don't you just love how it turned out with all of its little spots???

Top view of the little dog ;)

I had no idea that my little great niece loved Giraffes. She was very excited when I gave her this toy. She carried it all around with her everywhere the day she got it. ;) I was very surprised...She let me keep it so I could take a picture of it. Yes of course I gave it back to her the next day. Her huge smile was so infectious, as she playing with it.
The Giraffe pattern was designed by my good friend Deb... from Green Jelly. Her shop is listed at the bottom of my blog :) In case your interested in a pattern of this sweet creature :) Debi offers two creatures in this pattern for sale :) One is the Giraffe and the other is a Horse.

A day out with Nadine :)

Nadine... Isn't she pretty???

Nadine, The Pitty Pat and I were eating lunch at Peter's .. LOL I think that is how it was spelled. Maybe not.. I do have a short fuse... I mean memory :) My lunch was Chicken Alfredo, and Chocolate cake for desert. Ms Nadine will have to tell you what she had for lunch.. it was something I had never heard of. But she said it tasted good but was a bit saltier than she liked. Don't you just hate when you eat out at a fine restaurant and the food is too salty or cold?

The Pitty was setting in her own chair watching all that was going on in the square.
Nadine and I had went to a quaint quilting shop in
Lafayette. I walked in the door with the Pitty in her new poodle bag, They took one look at her and said take her out of that bag! They loved having creatures visit in their shop too :) After spending a good hour or so in the shop.....both of us purchased some wonderful fabrics, patterns and quilting tools. We asked the ladies working at the quilt shop where was a good place to eat. They sent us to a fun shopping type square.. like a silly dope I didn't take any photos of the square. There was lots and lots of shops. Nadine and I stopped in a Pet shop to see what they had to offer. I have to admit.. I think my custom pet apparel was better than what they offered for sale. But I could be conceded :) lol I asked the guy if it was made by someone in the area and he had no clue. Figures it was a man ;)
There was other restaurants, ice cream shops, clothing stores and just plain fun stuff. It was a very fun afternoon spent by the three of us. We didn't get to spend as much time together as we hoped but we did make the most of the time we did have ;)

The Pitty really liked the sour dough bread. The lunch was really scrumptious!! They served so much .. I had to take some home and eat it later in the week.

We also went to see the crosses of Lafayette

It is very sobering site to see all of those crossing on the hillside. Each one of the crosses represent one of our American Soldiers that gave his life for our country. Please say a few words of prayer for our soldiers when you close your eyes tonight ;) Thank you!!

Home in Ta Town

Hello Ladies.. I thought I would tell you .......... I am now home and not too excited about it either. I left Ca with the family in a mess. My Grandma Peachy (99 years old) was rushed to the Hospital by ambulance on Sat. She is very ill, but with meds she is expected to do much better. They admitted her for 3-4 days. Then my mom has her biopsy surgery tomorrow. So you can see why I am not thrilled about being in Ks away from my loved ones in CA. I am just so worried about both of them and how they will do. Keep your fingers crossed that mom's biopsy results are good and grandma is on the mend fast. There is a real possibility... with mom, the results will be bad news again. We will not get the official word until Monday at the earliest. Which is a long time to wait on the results. Other than all of that... I am home :) It was really nice to sleep in my own bed and get a great nites sleep. Or I should say as good as I could sleep, with all the worry. Yeah!!! No back ache to wake up too :)
I have really missed all of you and your notes and comments on my blog... so ladies show me some love and send me messages and help keep my mind off my own troubles :)

Hello Ladies... The vacation is almost over! Boo hoo hoo hoo! I will return home on Monday :) So you can now send me emails, fabric and money :) LOL Money is always welcome. I miss your conversations. I look forward to our chats again.
I have missed all of my other creatures at home. I can't wait to get home and see all them. Even the loud mouth Parrot :) Who is always saying "Hello Fat Girls" LOL dad use to say that to them each morning when he went out to feed them. That was when he had the three sister birds together in one cage.
The Pitty is outside chasing the Hummers. They are playing with the Pitty by swooping above and by her. The Hummers have been buzzing and eating the nectar of mom's sage plant every time the Pitty is outside ;) I have noticed the Hummers sort of hang out until about 11 am. Then it starts getting hot and they disappear, until the next day. Mom has several creatures that visit and hang around here. Mom has these two little squirrels that lay across the top of her wood fence. I have attempted several times to photograph them... but the Hummers and the squirrels are too fast for me to photograph. I am one of those that has to zoom and focus. By the time you do all of that they are moved or run off.
Oh well two more days to try and photograph them ;) I have just attempted to photograph the Hummers. Rats too fast ;)

Ok for the title... I received a request to see photos of the quilt in progress... here it is ;)

This is a really cute animal print... By Michael Alexander. The checked fabric is a really light orange color. It looks so light and fresh looking .. just like spring when the baby will be here ;) My sister discovered she loves them place in a pin wheel style like the photo of the blocks laid out.

Started in Ca finished in Ta Town :) Photos :)

The first Sunday nite after I arrived in Ca, we had a family Pizza Party. We had great Pizza and we ate this to die for Death by Chocolate ...Chocolate cake. Now I can tell you I can eat my weight in Chocolate. But this cake was so rich you could only eat a sliver at a time. Mom was sort of disappointed that I wrapped the gifts in newspaper instead of Christmas wrap. For some reason.. I just didn't want them all wrapped in Christmas wrap. Maybe??? It just didn't feel like Christmas.. but anyway everyone opened their gifts and loved them. I have to tell you the art bag was a huge hit with my Nephew. He told me several times how much he loved it and was looking forward to carrying it with him to work. I was told my niece dumped her old book bag as soon as they got home and threw everything in the new backpack that I made her. She was so excited to carry it to school the next day. I guess it was a huge hit with all of her friends. My sister loved the backpack so much I had to promise to make her one when I returned home. Anyway I told everyone that I would share the items that I crafted for my family for Christmas. When I returned home from my Vacation. Well here are two photos of aprons that I made. I started this post in CA... but was unable to finish it due to family things going on. I will post more photos of other items soon... lol that means I don't have them loaded into the computer yet ;) I hope to get that done today :) I am sorry the apron photos are not on a model... I did the best I could at the time ;)

This is the apron that my niece received.

This is the apron that I gave to my sister.
I will post moms apron as soon as the photos are loaded ;)
Thanks for understanding.. I still need to do those return home things today :)
